They pepper in some\npictures and testimonials to try and establish their legitimacy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even worse, there is an online trend of vloggers teaching\npeople how to make their own braces out of household supplies. While the\nprospect of saving some money might be tempting, these DIY options come with\nsubstantial physical and financial risks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Don\u2019t Try This at Home \u2013 DIY Braces<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a reason that people go to dental school. Moving\nteeth safely and effectively is not an easy feat. It requires extensive training,\nproper equipment, and years of experience. Unfortunately, there is a faction of\nvloggers teaching dangerous methods of making DIY braces out of common items.\nThose who follow these techniques open themselves up to a number of risks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Infection<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Some of the materials that DIY vloggers recommend using are\nsuperglue, rubber bands, and paper clips. None of these materials are sterile\nor on par with the materials that dentists use. The bacteria introduced into\nyour mouth from these objects can cause infection and periodontal disease.\nAdditionally, improperly placed materials can lacerate your gums and leave them\nunable to heal due to constant irritation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Tooth Loss <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you see a general dentist or an orthodontist for\nbraces, they carefully plan out small, incremental movements to ensure the\nsafety of your teeth. While spending a number of months in braces or aligners\nmay seem inconvenient, it\u2019s the best way to ensure safe, long-lasting results.\nMany of these DIY options are designed to move teeth very quickly. This not\nonly makes the teeth more likely to move back once the braces are removed, but can\ncause them to become loose or die in the process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Unwanted Results<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting braces from a dentist requires periodic checkups so\nthat they can monitor your progress and adjust accordingly. With DIY braces,\nyou\u2019re throwing a proverbial Hail Mary and hoping for the best. This can\nultimately lead to a smile that is even worse than before. Teeth can be shifted\nfar out of place, affecting your ability to chew or even speak properly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Financial Burden<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When things go wrong with DIY braces, they go very wrong.\nWhile you may think you\u2019d be saving money by going through the process\nyourself, you may ultimately have to spend much more than the cost of braces to\nremedy the damage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The dangers of DIY braces are simply too high to justify\nanyone trying them. While more hygienic than DIY braces, they\npose some of the same risks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Since your progress is not monitored by a qualified\nprofessional, your teeth may move too quickly or in the wrong way. This opens\nyou up to tooth loss, a warped smile, and chewing and speaking problems. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The moral of the story is to always see a professional when\nyou\u2019re thinking about straightening your teeth. Though the prospect of saving\nsome money can be alluring, the emotional and financial burdens you may subject\nyourself to are simply not worth it.
